“Fathers, Sons, Brothers + Others” at The Creole

Fathers, Sons, Brothers + OthersThe charming gentlemen of the Such family have much more than their fair share of artistic talent. You have a brief chance to witness the results of that talent at “Fathers, Sons, Brothers + Others” at The Creole in Lansing’s Old Town, this weekend only. It will be open today from noon–10 p.m. and during First Sunday Gallery Walk from noon–4 p.m.

Dragon by Nick Such

“Dragon” by Nick Such.

It’s worth making the time to check it out, especially if you’re already in Old Town for JazzFest. Nick, Paul, Nicholas, David, and Colin Such (I sure hope I got them all) have put together a show filled with colored pencil landscapes, comic book heroes, elegant metal sculptures, bold paintings, quirky little epoxy pieces, and more.

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing David for some time. A partner at Such Video, he was the founder of Scrapfest and Compassionate Feast and is an active fixture in our community (I think he’s been part of the Old Town Commercial Association board for maybe a decade) and just all-around wonderful person. This was his first show and I hope it is the first of many. It really comes as no surprise that his brothers, son and nephew are such a talented bunch.

If you’re in the market to buy art, the pieces for sale are VERY reasonably priced. At the rate they were selling last night, there might not be much left.

[There will be another upcoming show at The Creole featuring the work of Jena McShane, Roxanne Frith, and Kevin Fowler. I don’t have the details, but I’m told it will be sometime in the coming months.]
